Bio

Claire Kann hails from the glorious Bay Area where the weather is regrettably not nearly as temperate as it used to be. She has a BA in English/Creative Writing from Sonoma State University and works for a nonprofit that you may have heard of where she daydreams like she’s paid to do it. A sucker for instant gratification, she posts new stories regularly to Wattpad, including her novels THE SCAVENGER HUNT, which won the 2016 Watty Award:HQ Love, and #FAT GIRL MAGIC, which won the 2017 Watty Award: Riveting Reads and ranked #1 in the Paranormal category.

LET’S TALK ABOUT LOVE is her debut novel.

Swoon Author Claire Kann: Dramatis Personae aka How to Be Your Most Awesome Self on the Internets

I'm going to be controversial for a minute: If your book's description or excerpt doesn't grab a reader's attention, there isn't much else you can do on that particular front. Pretty covers, trusted recommendations from friends and v/bloggers, blurbs from Big Name Authors, glowing reviews or other methods along those lines could help, but ... Read More

Swoon Author Claire Kann: You've Heard of Killing Your Darlings... Now It's Time to Build a Body

In my last post, I hinted that writing is a choice for me. Storytelling is my passion and writing is the medium I’ve chosen. Honesty hour: I don’t have a natural talent for writing and composition. I had to research, study, and come up with a process that works for me.Let’s Talk About: Writing… more specifically ... Read More

Swoon Author Claire Kann: Thanks, Obama (No, But Really, Thank You.)

I never wanted to be a writer. Veterinarian? Yes. Pediatrician? Sure. Astronaut? Of course, but math. So much math.Although I do have distinct memories of writing short stories, passing them around to my friends in high school and trying my hand at (bad) poetry, writing fiction was never this all-encompassing passion for me. And if I'm honest, it ... Read More

Swoon Author Claire Kann's Editing Update: Let's Talk About... Revisions*

*Yes, I am totally going to get as much mileage out of my title as humanly possible. But more than that, I want to talk about doubt and collaboration.I’ve been in the Swoon game since 2013. I remember the blog post announcing Sandy Hall’s A Little Something Different being selected as the first Swoon Reads book and ... Read More
