Bio

KIMBERLY KARALIUS holds an MFA in fiction from the University of South Florida, and has been sharing stories on Figment.com with a strong following of enthusiastic readers since the site's conception. Although Kimberly lives in sunny Florida, she prefers to stay indoors and sometimes buys a scarf in the hopes of snow. Being in Florida certainly has one big perk: going to Disney World. Which she does. Frequently. Love Fortunes and Other Disasters is her debut novel.

Swoon Author Kimberly Karalius' Editing Update: Introverts and Gifts

Like babies and snowflakes, each new book is unique. In some way, shape, or form, it finds a way to throw you off your Foolproof Writing Plan and makes you grow as a writer. I fully expected that with Love Charms and Other Catastrophes because I was entering Hijiri Kitamura’s head. While I love all my Grimbaudians (even you ... Read More

Announcing FIRST KISSES AND OTHER MISFORTUNES, a novella by Kimberly Karalius!

Close your eyes. Okay, maybe not literally. Metaphorically. Please, thanks. Now imagine Grimbaud: chocolate-drizzled waffles, sparkling canals, and marble cupids perched on red brick buildings, aiming their arrows at the townspeople below. Now imagine it… IN SUMMMER.That's right. Summer. Having traveled there quite a few times myself, I can tell you that Grimbaud is a pretty romantic town ... Read More

Swoon Author Kimberly Karalius: NaNoWriMo for the Nontraditional Participant

All Novembers are not created equal. No matter how well-intentioned I am going into National Novel Writing Month, there’s always a slew of obstacles that keep me from wedging myself into a corner all month and writing until my fingers fall off. This year? It’s having a deadline right smack in the middle of November. But why should ... Read More

Swoon Author Kimberly Karalius: My Secret Identity

By day, I’m a mild-mannered cubicle dweller working in risk management, drinking out of a mug tattooed with the company logo and using the cafeteria microwaves to heat my lunch like everyone else. But by night, I’m an Author. It’s like carrying a little secret in my pocket as I go about my days. Social media may ... Read More

Swoon Author Kimberly Karalius: The Dos and Don’ts of Book Signings

If you’ve ever wanted to be an author, then you’ve probably daydreamed about book signings. I know I used to. I hadn’t been to many book signings myself, so that left a lot of room to embellish. I pictured sitting on a throne-like chair with a magical fountain pen, ready to sign a pile of books taller ... Read More
