And the title for Jennifer Honeybourn's new book is...Jennifer Honeybourn
Finding the right title that reflects your book is not easy. At least, it isn’t for me. I had a lot of trouble naming my second book (and my first one—Wesley James Ruined My Life—if I’m honest!). Maybe it’s because I’m too close to it, but finding a title that fit this story—about a teenage exorcist-in-training—was hella hard.
The Swoon Reads team and I tossed around a few ideas—Expelled, The Exorcist's Apprentice—but neither of those felt quite right. We wanted something funny and lightly paranormal, something that would match the tone of the book, which, in short, is about:
"Sixteen-year-old Shelby Black has spent the six months training to be an exorcist. High school is hard enough without having to explain that you fight demons for a living, so Shelby keeps her extracurricular activity to herself—and she especially doesn’t want her crush Spencer to find out. But when Shelby uncovers new information about her missing mom, she has to decide what she’s willing to risk to find her—including her soul AND a date with Spencer."
So when the Swoon Reads team suggested we crowdsource the title—the first time Swoon Reads has ever done this — I jumped right on board. And it turned out to be a great success, because not only did we receive many awesome suggestions, but one of those suggestions turned out to be the PERFECT title for this book:
Eternal gratitude to Jessica Hansen for giving us this excellent title! Oh, how I love it and I hope all of you do as well.
Cover voting will be happening SOON, so keep an eye on the blog 'til then!
