Announcing THE BOYFRIEND BRACKET by Kate Evangelista!

Life numbers. Is anyone here a believer of life numbers? I sure am. I’ve lived my life based on my life number, which is 11, and if I’m being totally specific about it, the number is 511. Let me explain. I promised it leads to a HUGE announcement below.

A life number is the number that follows you around every day for the rest of your days. It’s more than your lucky number. Here’s how it works for me: My name is Kate Evangelista. The first letter of my name corresponds to the number 11 when you assign numerical values for each letter of the alphabet. The first letter of my last name corresponds to the number 5. That’s the first instance of 511 being my life number. The next occurrence is my birthday: May 11, 1983. May is the fifth month and the day is 11 and if you add my year of birth (8+3), that’s 11 as well. My class number was always 11. My volleyball jersey number was 11. You get the picture. I hope. Basically, the number you see all the time corresponds to your life number.

Some will say that’s just all coincidence. If it happens once or twice, that’s a coincidence. If it happens all the time, it’s the universe trying to tell you something. At least, that’s how I choose to believe it.

Here comes the HUGE announcement: I’m happy to share with all of you the news that I have a new book coming out! It’s my fourth with Swoon Reads, but if you count my novels from my debut many moons ago, it’s actually my eleventh official release. And with this eleventh book comes so many firsts. This will be my first hardcover! Also this is my first novel that features a Filipina main character—a callback to my roots, as I am Filipino, in case you haven’t heard. *winks*

The story behind writing The Boyfriend Bracket comes from my return to teaching. Another connection to the life number. Last year, I got a call from a friend who I taught with at my first job as a high school English teacher. She was frantic because she had two creative writing teachers quit on her. With much convincing, I eventually gave in. Here comes the life number bit. I was hired to teach Grade 11 students who had chosen the Humanities track for college, and there were 11 students in my class. While they were writing their own stories, I wrote The Boyfriend Bracket. I fed on the creative energy in the air like a creative writing vampire. I owe this book to the eleven girls who rejuvenated my love for writing stories.

So, with all the connections and the life numbers along the way, I’m proud to share with all of you The Boyfriend Bracket. Check out the blurb below!

"Stella has had a hopeless crush on Will, her older brother's best friend FOREVER, but now that Cam and Will have graduated and are going off to college, this year is her chance to really strike out on her own. Without her overprotective brother and his sidekick around to distract her, she can focus on having all the typical high school experiences that she's always dreamed of—starting with finding a boyfriend! With the help of her best friend Franklin, she comes up with the perfect plan to have a boyfriend by Christmas: The Boyfriend Bracket.

Or it seems like the perfect plan... right up until Will starts showing up again. How is she supposed to find the perfect boyfriend when none of her dates measure up to the one boy she can never have?"

Come back Monday for cover voting!
