Announcing AN OUTCAST AND AN ALLY by Caitlin Lochner!
I can’t believe the day has finally come that I get to talk about my second book with Swoon (what??). It’s been a long, difficult process in which I wanted to bang my head against my keyboard several times over. There were more times than I can count that I thought no one would even want to read this book and I wondered why I was writing it. But whenever I was feeling low, I thought of how much I loved these characters and how far both they and I have come in the last few years. And we all made it.
I am the WORST at keeping things on the down low, and it’s been killing me not to be able to talk more about this upcoming book, but now, I can officially announce the sequel to A Soldier and a Liar: An Outcast and an Ally!
If you read the first book, you might remember that things ended, uh, not very well for our team. An Outcast and an Ally picks up very soon after this.
Lai, Jay, Al, and Erik are on the run after the military falsely accuses them of being traitors. Tensions between everyone are high, but they have to stick together if they want to survive. And somehow stop the war between the gifted and ungifted that’s now in full swing.
But when Erik is drawn to the one place he knows he can find answers about his past, Lai, Al, and Jay have no choice but to go to the Order—a peace coalition bent on stopping the rebels and dissolving the enmity between gifted and ungifted. However, the longer the war drags on, the more Lai’s long-kept secrets threaten to destroy everything she’s ever worked for. Sparks fly as everyone struggles to figure out who they can trust while trying to navigate a war that will change everything.
This book is not only the ending to Lai, Jay, Al, and Erik’s story, but the end of a long journey with these characters for me. I wrote the very first, very unfortunate first draft of Lai and co.’s story back in 2011 and spent almost six years repeatedly rewriting and editing and rewriting it before selling it to Swoon. When A Soldier and a Liar came out in February, it was truly a life’s dream come true. I’m so happy I’ve been able to share this story I love so much with everyone, and now, I’m thrilled to be able to bring you the conclusion of everyone’s journey. I hope you enjoy it!
