April’s Rose Cover Design for SAVE ME
Our designers have created some amazing cover designs for SAVE ME by Jenny Elliott, and we’re counting on you to choose which one actually goes on the book! We know it’s a big decision, so today we’ve asked designer April W. to share the story behind this gorgeous cover approach:
As a native Oregonian I loved reading Save Me, with its vivid and realistic descriptions of the Oregon coast. Because of that I initially wanted to focus on the whale aspect of the story and try something more coastal. But after a few failed attempts I found that a more iconic and mysterious image could convey the dark, unsettling tone of the story more accurately. I chose the white rose to represent Garren’s gift to Cara, but opened up the center circle among the petals very slightly and added a tiny shining reflection that wouldn’t be noticeable to most people. I wanted to subtly hint at the possibility that someone is watching. Maybe it’s the eye of God, or a dark and gentle whale, or nothing at all…just a perfect flower from a mysterious friend.
