Avon the Swoon Reads Mascot
The internet is clearly obsessed with cats, and I for one could not be happier (if you haven’t read my bio on the about page, check it out to see what I mean). I feel like the internet is finally catching up to what I’ve known since childhood: cats are freaking awesome.
What does this have to do with Swoon Reads, you ask? Well, it just so happens that our fearless (and dog-loving) leader, Jean Feiwel, saw the writing on the internet wall and decided our SR mascot should be a cat. And not just any cat–my cat!
Without any sarcasm, that was one of the happiest moments of my life. So I’d like to introduce you to my baby, Avon, who is our official Swoon Reads mascot:
Avon is a four-year-old girl, and as you can see from the photo above, she’s a tuxedo. So naturally I buy her collars with bowties on them, and she actually doesn’t seem to mind wearing them. Other than her affinity for formal wear, it’s really her personality that makes her a great mascot for Swoon Reads.
Avon is an incredibly loving cat. She’s generous with kisses and snuggles, sometimes to the point where I don’t want them, but I can’t turn that cute face down. But she’s also a romantic. Ever since I started dating my boyfriend, she’s had a special relationship with him. She waits outside the bathroom for him to finish brushing his teeth at night, and when he opens the door she starts talking to him and leading him ever so coyly towards the bedroom. It’s pretty ridiculous.
But what I think is absolutely not ridiculous is that Swoon Reads has a cat as a mascot. We’re in love with falling in love here, and we definitely love our pets. I think pretty much everyone on the staff would agree that curling up with a great romance is something we all love to do. For me, the only thing that makes it better is to have a cat curled up with me while I’m doing it! Or two… Avon does have a brother after all!
So here’s a big hello from Avon and me! If you have any burning questions for her (or for me), please leave them in the comments. Talk to you swoon!
