Summer has hit New York in full force, and all of us here in the Swoon Reads HQ are daydreaming about reading on the beach and summer activities. What better way to get into the summer spirit than to splurge on some bookish items for your summer wardrobe, jewelry box, or TBR shelf? Here are some goodies that would add a little more bookish flair to your life.

Bookish Jewelry

A piece of literary jewelry is the perfect way to announce your bookworm status—you know, if the book in your hand isn’t enough. Here are a few choice pieces. I adore the elegant Modcloth Opening Line Necklace, Wonderland of Whimsy bracelet, and this quirky Laser Cut Ampersand Necklace from Etsy.

A literary tote bag

Totes are perfect beach bags — or book bags. (Because if you’re like me, you probably find yourself carrying around books more often than beach towels.) I adore this water-resistant 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea tote from Litograph, but Out of Print also has an awesome selection of bookish totes.

A bookish statement bag

We all love a good tote. But what if you’re looking for something more sophisticated? If you want to bring some literary flair to your evening ensemble, how about this summer-y Elusive Edition Bag from ModCloth? I also love this cute book-shaped Olde Book Messenger Bag from ThinkGeek.

A bookish skirt

I know this list is Modcloth-heavy—but they’re kind of killing it with their bookish apparel! I love this floaty A-line skirt, and its quirky kitty-and-library-shelves pattern. It’s the perfect skirt for a hot summer day.

Bookish beach towel

You need something to lay on while reading your book on the beach. Why not a bookish towel?

24638077A relaxing coloring book

Maybe you’ve been meaning to pick up a sophisticated adult coloring book like the popular Enchanted Forest or The Mindfulness Coloring Book. Or maybe a Disney Princess coloring book is more your style. Coloring books can help you de-stress, so they’re the perfect activity for those summer days when you just want to kick back and relax.

A travel book

Whether it’s 1,000 Places to See Before You Die, a book of travel tips, or maybe even a book about improving your photography skills, summer wanderlust means plenty of research (and daydreaming) about potential vacation destinations.

Bookish temporary tattoos

Want a cool temporary tattoo to wear to your local summer music festival, party, beach, or book club? Why not choose a smarty-pants literary tattoo? I’m partial to the Moby Dick and The Time Machine ones that Litograph sells. Which is your fave?

A fun literary t-shirt

No summer wardrobe is complete with one (or maybe a few) bookish tees. I love the Wrinkle in Time or Choose Your Own Adventure t-shirts from Out of Print.

636x460tank_girls_01A literary tank top

I can’t get over how adorable this “Herringbooks” Tank Top from Threadless is! It’s such a clever design, and a perfect cut for summer days. I can imagine this dressed up with a high-waisted skirt or dressed down with shorts.

A good book

Of course, no summer is complete without some fun summer reads! What’s on your TBR list this summer? Why not dip into a manuscript on the site, or try some of the books that Swoon Staffer Ashley W. recommended?

What are your bookish summer faves? Will you be treating yourself to any of these literary items?
