Check out the final cover for THE KING'S QUESTIONER by Nikki Katz!
I am absolutely a DO Judge a Book By Its Cover girl… I love strolling through the aisles of a bookstore, spotting an eye-catching cover, and then opening the pages to see the summary. Thus, the cover reveal is one of my parts of being an author! There’s something about seeing your book come to life in a visual format that makes everything that much more real.
I actually received the first draft of the cover art for The King’s Questioner when I was in Scotland on vacation, sprawled in my hotel room as I recovered from bad oysters. Probably too much information, but it definitely made my day much brighter! I opened the image and was immediately drawn to the fantastical atmosphere shown in the castle archways, a royal vision in triplicate, and the pastel storm on the horizon. The shattered effect lets the reader know that all is not what it seems and that the world may be crumbling for the characters.
We announced the book a while ago, so for those who don’t remember or who haven’t yet seen the description, The King’s Questioner is an epic YA fantasy featuring royal drama, dark magic, and a secret that could topple a kingdom.
Kalen is a mental picklock, able to access a person's memories and secrets by touch. His skills make him the perfect questioner to the king, and he spends his days interrogating prisoners of the crown.
But when Kalen's estranged childhood friend, Prince Cirrus, falls into a sudden coma, the king begs Kalen to intervene. By accessing Cirrus's mind, Kalen saves his life—and uncovers a hidden memory. The prince has a sister, banished long ago, and she is the key to the destruction or survival of the kingdom.
With the help of Cirrus and a silver-haired thief named Luna, Kalen must find the princess and bring her home. Or risk death at the hands of his king.
I hope you like the cover as much as I do, and I cannot wait to share Kalen, Cirrus, Reign, and Luna with you on January 14, 2020!
