A Day in the Life of Cindy Anstey, Swoon Author
Good morning. The author yawns and leaps out of bed ready to slay dragons (if she is working on a fantasy) or face down murderers (yes, working on a mystery). Breakfast means time to think while munching without jotting anything down. By the time she’s poured her coffee, the author is ready to deal with the 19th century.

Down the stairs, coffee in hand, chocolate lab pushing his way ahead, the author then turns on the lights and the computer. Distractions are taken care of first—i.e. email. And then she begins, lost in thought: Riding a horse, wandering the countryside or going to a ball (yes, she dances beautifully in her imagination—knows all the steps.) Eventually, Chester (the lab) nudges her to ask for a pee break and the author realizes that the morning is gone.
The afternoon is much the same (writers live such fascinating lives). Eventually the room darkens and the author is forced to return to the real world—leaving her character hanging from a cliff or mid-kiss. She finds her husband has made dinner and turned on the hockey game for them both to enjoy.
When lying in bed at night, the author wonders why she enjoys writing so much. And then she remembers her character hanging off the side of a cliff and imagines four different ways for the girl to escape the mortal danger… and the author’s heart quickens when she imagines her character’s first kiss.
And as the author drifts off to sleep, she knows it doesn’t matter why she loves to write. She just does and she is one of the most fortunate people in the world who actually enjoys her job.
