Express Your Shelf With a Bookshelfie
I’ve always felt like you can tell a lot about a person based on their bookshelf. It’s an extension of ourselves as readers. What we like, how we organize, how much we read… all that jazz. I don’t know about you, but my shelf and the books on it are my absolute favorite things that I own.
And of course, what better way to show your love for something than to take a selfie with it?
I’d never taken a bookshelfie before, but I thought it would be fun to give it a try, and a couple of my fellow Swoon bloggers volunteered to join me!
You’ll find lots of fantasy (and tchotchkes!) on my shelf. Ever since I first picked up The Chronicles of Prydain when I was 8 or 9, I’ve been hooked on magic and adventure. And of course Tamora Pierce takes up almost an entire shelf on her own. I’m gonna need a bigger bookcase!
My shelves contain a lot of YA and literary fiction, plus a smattering of graphic novels and scifi/fantasy. A few of the books behind me are Fangirl, Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac, Annie on My Mind, Cloud Atlas, and The Once and Future King. And yes, the Underwood typewriter works. Kind of. I’m in the process of (very slowly) restoring it.
That is my most important bookshelf at work. It has my favorite books I’ve worked on, my top to-read titles and some of my all-time faves that I wish I had worked on. Of course, a few practical things, like mugs, stuffed animals and other little things are added for a some extra character!
On my requisite Ikea Expedit shelf you’ll find: awesome things like signed copies of J. K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy, ridiculous things like signed copies of Miley Cyrus’s autobiography Miles to Go, and me, doing my best impression of a cheesy author photo. (Also barely visible in the top left hand corner is TSwift’s 1989 on vinyl, because I am that girl.)
Now it’s your turn, Swooners! Take a picture with your bookshelf and post it on social media to show off your bookworm pride. And we’d love to see your bookshelfies too, so be sure to tag us @SwoonReads and use hashtags like #SwoonReads, #bookshelfie, and #ExpressYourShelf!
