#Ham4YA: Combining our Two Favorite Things
It’s no secret, nor should it come as a surprise, that a few (ALL) of us at Swoon HQ are kind of obsessed with Hamilton the Musical (and Lin-Manuel Miranda!). So obsessed that it even rivals our love for good YA (almost).
So what’s the only thing that could be better than singing along to Hamilton or reading our favorite books? Singing along to Hamilton while imagining scenes from our favorite books! Thus, #ham4YA was born. Some of our favorite #ham4YA mashups that we came up with are below, but we’d love to see more! Comment, tweet, post, etc. using #ham4YA!
The Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu
This IS Day!
“I prob’ly shouldn’t brag, but dag, I amaze and astonish
The problem is I got a lot of brains but no polish
I gotta holler just to be heard
With every word, I drop knowledge!

Tryin’ to reach my goal. My power of speech: unimpeachable
Only nineteen but my mind is older”

When you’re living on your knees, you rise up
Tell your brother that he’s gotta rise up
Tell your sister that she's gotta rise up”

“So this is what it feels like to match wits
With someone at your level! What the hell is the catch?
It’s The feeling of freedom, of seein’ the light
It’s Ben Franklin with a key and a kite! You see it, right?”
Kestrel’s always at least ten steps ahead, but when you get to that part in book one….
“And I realize three fundamental truths at the exact same time...he will never be satisfied. I will never be satisfied.”
Cress by Marissa Meyer

There are screams and church bells ringing
And as our fallen foes retreat
I hear the drinking song they’re singing…
The world turned upside down”

They emerge with a compromise, having opened doors that were
