How's it going, Swooners?
We could not be more excited for you to delve into the four cover options for Internet Famous! In this geeky contemporary, Danika Stone asks the BIG question in this modern dating age: Can an online romance survive in real life? ICYMI, here's the synopsis:
"High school senior and internet sensation Madison Nakama seems to have it all: a happy family, good grades, and a massive online following for her pop-culture blog. But when her mother suddenly abandons the family, Madi finds herself struggling to keep up with all of her commitments.
Fandom to the rescue! As her online fans band together to help, an online/offline flirtation sparks with Laurent, a French exchange student. Their internet romance—played out in the comments section of her MadLibs blog—attracts the attention of an internet troll who threatens the separation of Madi’s real and online personas. With her carefully constructed life unraveling, Madi must uncover the hacker’s identity before he can do any more damage, or risk losing the people she loves the most… Laurent included."
Swoon designers Eileen S. and Sophie E. (designing for Swoon for the first time ever!) have put together four awesome cover directions for you to choose from, and have shared some thoughts about their inspiration behind each one. Remember, the below images aren't necessarily final. These are just directions, so there will probably be some tweaks made before the book hits the shelves. Eileen S.'s Red Cover
I really enjoy working with simple, graphic illustrations that still pack a punch. Paired with the tagline, I like how the ellipses help convey a sense of uncertainty. Everyone is familiar with the anxiety of seeing those three dots, and hoping for the response you want! The red adds some boldness, but the handwritten type softens the overall feel.
Sophie E.'s Web Cover
Everyone knows dating is hard. But when the internet gets involved, it gets really complicated—like a maze that challenges even the most logical heart. My cover for Internet Famous shows online dating as it really is: a combination of technology and romance that leads (hopefully!) to happiness.
Eileen S.'s Purple Cover
Here I took the phone idea once again, and tried to show a little bit more of the story. Madi lives in a small town upstate, while Laurent is in NYC. A visual representation of their communication encircles the title; it borrows from computer circuitry but is still cute and fun. In the final it might be nice to add some more doodles that reference movies or Madi's blog.
Eileen S.'s Suburbia Cover
For this cover I wanted to show Madi in her suburban home. Seen with the title, I wanted to remind people that internet celebrities can come from even the smallest, most unassuming towns. Then to add the online relationship part of the story, I placed Laurent's location icon up in a digital "cloud."
