Judging a Cover by Its Book: Choose the Cover Direction for THE GAME CAN'T LOVE YOU BACK!
Cover voting is now closed. Thanks for all your help!
Hey there, Swooners!
We are incredibly exited to show you all the proposed cover directions for Karole Cozzo's new book, The Game Can't Love You Back! In case you missed yesterday's announcement post, here's a little more info about it:
"Eve is used to being the odd woman out. As the only girl on her school's baseball team, she knows exactly how to put sweaty, macho baseball players in their place, and she's focused on one thing and one thing only—being the best pitcher she can be.
But when a freak accident forces her high school to be absorbed by the neighboring town, Eve has to contend with a new group of guys who aren't used to having a woman on their team. And the new team's star pitcher, Jamie, has no interest in being ousted from his throne. He can't afford to give up his starting slot to a new pitcher—even worse, to a girl.
As the competition between Jamie and Eve starts to heat up, so does their attraction to each other. Can they keep their heads in the game, or will they end up getting played?"
Swoon designer extraordinaire Danielle M. has cooked up four awesome cover options for you to choose from and has also shared some thoughts about her inspiration behind each. Remember, the below images aren't necessarily final. These are just directions, so there will most likely be some tweaks made before the book hits the shelves. Home Plate Cover
I was thinking fun and playful romance. Baseball shares the stage with the lovebirds in this comp. A little bit of friendly (or flirty) competition never hurt anyone, am I right? Design-wise, the bright colors and stark contrast makes this an athletic romance home-run. :)
Bold Type Cover
I wanted to show the protagonists' kick-a$$ spirit in this contemporary and bold comp. The type consumes the full cover, however Eve's strength doesn't take a back seat. My color choice in combo with the imagery and design adds the necessary sweet with the salty.
Baseball Field Cover
My classic take on the athletic romance. I was thinking of cinematic sports drama. For final, I would infuse more color and address the title type more.
This is an alternative fun and playful cover with a particular scene in mind (spoiler?). My type design adds a pinch of edge to the visually gratifying romantic gesture in the imagery. If chosen, I would address the readability of the title type.
