Meet the Author of THE BIG F, Maggie Ann Martin!
Meet the fourth of four brilliant authors joining the Swoon Reads family, Maggie Ann Martin! We fell hard for her fun and full-of-heart contemporary about a girl whose college plans are derailed by a failing grade. Between the completely relatable concept and the sassy leather-jacket-wearing bookstore boy, The Big F is bound to please!
What inspired you to write The Big F?
I was a freshman in college when I started writing The Big F and was feeling a lot of the same emotions as Danielle—I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with my life and felt this pressure to figure it out. My little sister was starting to look at colleges around that time and she consulted the local “college psychic” in our town for guidance. This made me think “what if a college psychic’s daughter didn’t make it into college?” It all kind of snowballed from there.
What is your favorite moment in the book?
That’s so hard. Anything with Porter makes me swoon, but I’m really particular to an “I Spy” game that he and Danielle play at a house party. Their banter starts to click here and it’s a super fun scene.
What's your favorite letter? Least favorite? :)
Is it conceited to say M? :) It’s the first letter of my first and last name so I’ve become rather acquainted! My least favorite is F, of course! But probably from having to find chapter titles that start with F and fit each chapter more than the letter itself.
Who would play your characters in a movie?
I love this question—I think about it way too often!
Danielle: Saoirse Ronan
Porter: Mat Vairo
Luke: Cayden Boyd
Zoe: Jessica Sula
What makes you swoon?
Nico Mirallegro as Finn Nelson in My Mad Fat Diary. My mission in life is to convince as many people as possible to watch that show, so here is me telling you that My Mad Fat Diary will change your life! Also, the song Damn Things Over by Empires. It’s the ultimate sing-at-the-top-of-your-lungs anthem.
