Meet the author of KISSING MAX HOLDEN, Katy Upperman!
We could not be more excited for all of you to meet the three authors who are joining the Swoon Reads family for Season 6!
Are you in the market for a new book boyfriend? Well, have we got a treat for you. Next up we have Katy Upperman, author of Kissing Max Holden. A bad boy? Great. The boy next door? Also great. But the bad boy next door? SIGN US UP.
What inspired you to write Kissing Max Holden?
The relationship between Jillian and Max, which might be the sort of romance I wished for when I was in high school. Kissing Max Holden has been through its fair share of rewrites and revisions, but it’s always, always, always been a story about childhood friends who fall in love. Plus, the treats! Jill’s love of baking is absolutely inspired by my love of butter, sugar, and chocolate chips.
What is your favorite moment in the book?
Kissing Max Holden takes place over several months, which include a number of holidays. Christmas is my favorite time of year, and kisses are my favorite scenes to write, and I couldn’t resist including a sprig of mistletoe for Jillian and Max to stumble upon…
What's your favorite holiday tradition? (Since Jillian and Max spend so many holidays together.)
I have so many favorites! Trick-or-treating with my daughter, baking Thanksgiving pies, shopping for and wrapping gifts, watching Elf and A Christmas Story, and picking the perfect Valentine’s Day surprise for my husband, to name a few.
Who would play your characters in a movie?
Dean Geyer has always been my Max Holden, though now he might be a little too old to pull off a seventeen-year-old. And my Jillian? Maia Mitchell, who I know thanks to my (not so) secret love of Disney’s Teen Beach movies.
What makes you swoon?
Romance of all sorts, but particularly intense relationships that overcome big challenges. I’m a fan of troubled book boys who have good hearts, and fictional girls who’ve got layers and lots of spirit.
