Meet the Author of MEN IN TIGHTS, Danielle Banas!Swoon Reads Staff
Meet the second of four fantastic authors joining the Swoon Reads family, Danielle Banas! We were blown away by her SUPER-fun and completely fresh take on the superhero genre, about a girl who teams up with a "supervillain" to save their city from a super-evil plot. You could say it's... super. Learn more about Men in Tights!
What inspired you to write Men in Tights?
My intense love for Spider-Man might have contributed a little (or a lot), but really I started writing it after combing the internet for superhero stories to read and not finding exactly what I was looking for. My initial idea for the book was a scene with a girl making fun of her brother’s dorky spandex tights. Everything about it made me really happy, and I couldn’t wait to share it with others in the hope that maybe it would make them happy too.
What is your favorite moment in the book?
I have too many! The moment when my main character Abby meets her love interest is one that always makes me smile because there’s so much snarky dialogue in that scene. Whenever my characters get a little sassy, it makes me super happy. I also love all the scenes with Abby’s older brother Connor. He’s a major goof, and he and Abby have a very typical brother-sister relationship, but they’ve also been through a lot together and they really support and care for each other, which is a beautiful thing. I’m an only child, but if I had a brother, I’d want him to be a clone of Connor. (Superpowers included, please!)
If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be? (Or
would you rather be a Muggle like Abby?) :)
Teleportation is my go-to choice for a superpower. There are way too many places I want to visit, and not having to pay for airfare or a hotel would be amazing! Also, I think I speak everyone when I say that I would love to be able to bring fictional characters to life. I could write a book on the amount of book characters that I wish were real people.
Who would play your characters in a
Chloe Grace Moretz would be a great Abby. She’d be great as anyone, to be honest. I think she’s so talented. And then I have this pipe dream of Michael Keaton playing one of my characters. I’m not even picky about which one. We both grew up in the same town, so I’d be honored if he ever portrayed a character that I created.
What makes you swoon?
bands, really creamy macaroni and cheese, that moment when a Starbucks barista
puts extra whipped cream on my drink… shall I continue? Honestly, you name it
and I’ve probably swooned over it, but book boys with a great grasp on sarcasm
have earned a special place in my heart. I’m also a Disney World addict. It’s
my favorite vacation destination. I’m a giant kid at heart!
