Meet the Author of REVERSE, Shana Silver!
Meet the third of three amazingly talented authors joining the Swoon Reads family, Shana Silver! We were blown away by her incredible mix of a clever sci-fi concept, a compelling mystery, and an engrossing romance. Don't miss Reverse!
Where did the idea for Reverse come from?
My dad and I are huge sci-fi fans and fans of science in general. At family gatherings, we often have lengthy conversations speculating about life on other planets, robots' self-awareness, and other technological advances. One day we were discussing the power of cloud devices and how the storage capacity will one day rival our own brains. That’s all it took to set me off! I started thinking about cloud devices storing memories and how downloading and uploading might work. I wondered what would happen if those types of devices got hacked… and from there I started thinking about the hacker. Why would she steal memories? What would she do with them? And of course, what would happen if someone stole from her? Soon after, Arden was born as well as her story!
In Reverse Arden can hack into her classmates memories and experience them herself. What one memory would you like to steal?
My favorite way that Arden uses the technology in the book is to try new experiences through other people’s eyes without leaving the comfort of her home. I would like to take a cue from her and steal an experience I would never otherwise get to participate in. I’d love to witness the thrill of breaking through the atmosphere in a rocket and the beauty of sailing among the stars. Plus it would be fun to twirl around in zero gravity without getting off my couch.
Who would play your characters in a movie?
Arden Varga – Vanessa Marano from Switched at Birth
Sebastian Cuomo – Nick Robinson from Everything, Everything
Zoey Flint – Candice King from Vampire Diaries
Charlotte Marion – Alisha Boe from 13 Reasons Why
Teddy Day – Tom Williamson from The Fosters
What makes you swoon?
The thing that makes me swoon the most is when someone supports their partner in their passions, no matter what it is. For example, I knew my husband was the “one” when he sat through a Stephenie Meyer live Q&A in NYC and waited in line with me for several hours for the release of Breaking Dawn even though he’d never read any of the previous books. In turn, I’ve trekked all around NYC for him tasting various delicacies to support his foodie hobby.
