Meet the Author of SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW, Jennifer Honeybourn!
Meet the second of four fabulous authors joining the Swoon Reads family, Jennifer Honeybourn! We fell head over heels for her hilarious story about a girl who falls for her childhood-best-friend-turned-nemesis during a summer at Tudor Tymes restaurant. Somebody That I Used to Know is a fun and fresh contemporary that you won't want to miss!
What inspired you to write Somebody That I Used to Know?
Several years ago I went to a renaissance faire, which besides being a super fun way to spend an afternoon also really got my imagination going. Kings and queens, knights in shining armor and their fair ladies, wandering minstrels, booths where you could buy medieval costumes and crafts or have your fortune told. I wanted to write a novel with a setting that was so interesting and rich it could almost function as a character. A renaissance faire seemed like the perfect place, but because they typically only happen over a weekend and my story encompasses a longer period of time, I decided to transform the faire into a theme restaurant.
What is your favorite moment in the book?
The scenes in the restaurant were a lot of fun to write, especially the ones between Quinn and Wesley. My favorite moment, though, is probably the epilogue. I can’t say anymore because I don’t want to give anything away!
Quinn is desperate to go to London. Where do you dream of visiting?
Like Quinn, I love London. Everything about
it. I’ve been several times but I really have the itch to go back. I have a
long list of other places I’d like to visit as well, tops being the southern
U.S. I’d love to road trip across Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.
Who would play your characters in a movie?
I would cast Dove Cameron, from Liv and Maddie, as Quinn, and Ross Lynch from Austin & Ally as Wesley. I have a seven-year-old daughter so I’m very familiar with Disney channel stars!
What makes you swoon?
Many things! Flowers for no reason. That moment
in a book or movie when the characters I've been rooting for finally realize
they're perfect for each other. Watching my husband and my daughter together.
