Swoon Author Shani Petroff: The Unofficial Soundtrack to MY NEW CRUSH GAVE TO ME

Holiday music plays a big role in My New Crush Gave to Me! The book takes place during Christmas and Hanukkah, so the characters hear (and even sing) holiday songs throughout the book.

Here is my unofficial playlist for the book:

"It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas"

"All I Want for Christmas is You"

"Here Comes Santa Claus"

"Winter Wonderland"

"You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch"

"Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree"

"Do You Hear What I Hear?"

"The Twelve Days of Christmas"

"Santa Claus is Coming to Town"

"I Have a Little Dreidel"

"The Maccabeats - Candelight - Hanukkah"

"Oh Hanukkah"

"Frosty the Snowman"

"Silver Bells"

"Santa Baby"

"It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"

Some of the songs are actually referenced in the book. For instance, "The Twelve Days of Christmas" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" play a big part in the caroling scene.

However, even the songs that don’t play a huge (or any) role in the book helped push my scenes forward. "All I Want for Christmas is You" is in some ways Charlie’s mantra as she tries to win over Teo. "You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" is when she isn’t feeling the Christmas spirit and is acting a self-centered. "Winter Wonderland" is part of J.D. and Charlie’s snow adventures.

Everywhere I go, I seem to be humming one of these songs! They definitely get me in the holiday spirit—and my hope is that My New Crush Gave to Me will help do the same for you.
