Swoon Spotlight: Rachel P. — YA Romance
As part of our ongoing effort to give you a glimpse behind the scenes of publishing, we have a new feature on our blog: Swoon Spotlight! Every week we’re going to introduce you to a Swoon Reads staff member, who has volunteered their time, energy, and enthusiasm to the imprint—while still being amazing at their regular jobs! This week we are featuring Rachel P. Check back every day at 2pm to learn more about Rachel, her job, and her thoughts on life in publishing.
There’s nothing I like more than a good romance, and the chance to find something exciting and undiscovered was too good to pass up!
What do you like most about working with books for young adults?
YA books are brilliant escapism.
What’s your favorite genre of romance?
I like a sweet, uncomplicated love story – not too much angst for the sake of angst. I also like a bit of URST – which stands for UnResolved Sexual Tension and is what teen romances are made of!
What’s the first romance you ever read?
Fifteen by Beverly Cleary (my mum’s old copy) and The Song of the Lioness books by Tamora Pierce, which I still read regularly (not romance, strictly speaking, but there’s a brilliant love story in them). I have always liked a kick-ass heroine!
