The Tree Cover: Anna’s Cover Design for A LITTLE SOMETHING DIFFERENT
Each of our designers has created a cover concept for A Little Something Different and we’re counting on you to choose which one actually goes on the book. We know it’s a big decision, so today we’ve asked, Designer Anna B. is going to share the story behind this gorgeous cover approach:
This cover is a hybrid between one of the first designs I did, inspired by Lauren Hom’s hilarious and awesome dailydishonesty.com, and a Valentine’s Day poster I made for my coworkers earlier this year. I thought that an imperfect, hand-made design would help convey the sweet, awkward tone of A Little Something Different and I was experimenting with hand-lettering the title when our creative director suggested I combine this type with the vine-y branches and heart-shaped leaves from my Valentine’s poster. The two elements went well together, and after some tweaking, this is what we came up with. My hope is that the finished cover reflects how Gabe and Lea are always running into each other but never interacting in the way they want to be, and yet this love grows up between them anyway.
