Beguiling Trickery Chani Lynn Feener

Description

Kenna Erikson knows absolutely nothing about Norse mythology. Which is daunting, considering she's a volur, a type of seer the Vikings believed garnered favor with the gods. For the most part, she ignores her gifts, and the useless ability to foresee thirty or so seconds into the future. For as long as she can remember, she's had only herself to rely on, and she likes that just fine. However, when shadows suddenly come alive and attack her, she's forced to seek outside help in the form of tall, blonde, and infinitely annoying, Luka. Somehow, Luka knows all about her attackers, and the mythology they spring from. He's also eager to help out, despite the fact they've only just met. But what secret is he keeping? Who is he really? And why does her heart flip every time he's around?

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was so much fun! It’s hard not to love a story about a hunky Norse god and cool psychic powers. The storyline was fresh, the characters rich, and the action was spot on. I particularly enjoyed the romantic scenes - Tempest has a great skill in describing the subtle aspects and motions of her characters. It was easy to connect with her characters, especially Kenna, the main protagonist. I loved how wonderfully flawed she was - her very relatable struggle to understand herself and come to terms with who she is.

At times I felt the internal monologue slowed the plot down; I would’ve preferred a few less backstory flashbacks. Also, there were quite a few grammatical errors I caught which brought me out, albeit temporarily, of the vivid and exciting story she’s telling.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to my friends. I’ll definitely be checking out the next book in this series.

*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review by LoP (Lovers of Paranormal)*

I'm extremely interested in basically any and all kinds of mythology, so that is what initially drew me to this book. This book centers around Kenna who has had to work extremely hard to get to where she is now. Kenna is estranged from people because she has a strange ability to foresee sporadically into the future for a short period of time. She doesn't have much of a social life except for her two besties, Friske and Parker who are bf and gf. Then we have the mysterious Luka enter into Kenna's drab life. She is completely taken aback by him. I have to say that I would be too if I were in her situation because he is one fine man. Soon after meeting Luka, Kenna's life gets much more stranger than what it once was. The thing is Kenna and Luka have a past that stretches lifetimes, but Kenna is only hitting the tip of the ice burg with her flashbacks. I love how this story twisted and turned and Norse mythology was ever-present the whole time. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy reading mythology in a fantasy setting, romance, and hot gods!! I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book which I just so happen to have!!!

If you enjoyed reading the Underworld series by Tempest C. Avery, this book is a must-read! Beguiling Trickery was absolutely AMAZING!! This seductive read was filled with intense plot twists at every corner, making it impossible to stop reading. It only took one chapter to find myself hooked!
First of all, I loved how the protagonist in the story, Kenna, is a strong leading character and actually stands up for herself when needed instead of being a constant damsel in distress. I loved how at some parts she could really kick ass! Tempest also made it extremely easy to like and see inside the minds of her characters. I absolutely LOVED watching Kenna’s relationship with the gorgeous, mysterious Luka unfold. Just when I’d start to think Luka’s character couldn’t get any more attractive and alluring, he constantly managed to surprise me by doing something completely unexpected.
Tempest managed to combine romance, humour and adventure into one fantastic read.
The book left off on a cliffhanger with some questions left unanswered, so I CAN’T WAIT for the next story in the series to come out !! If you’re looking for a book that is impossible to put down, I definitely recommend reading Beguiling Trickery! :)

***I received this book in exchange for an honest review, Lovers of Paranormal.***

Wow. This book took me completely by surprise in so many ways but in the most important way, IT ROCKED.

So the cover initially reminded me of the Splintered series by A.G. Howard, so I was thinking fantastical and whimsical. Not really since it was about Norse mythology (yeah it kind of confused me also)....UNTIL you realize why it looks like that and when I finally got it, it made COMPLETE sense (same feelings towards the title too), and I loved it immensely.

I loved all of the main characters, Kenna, Luka, Fiske, Parker...it was super entertaining, I loved Kenna and Luka's spunk and laughed out loud numerous times. I loved the tension between the main characters in the beginning....I love what they finally did with that tension.

Yeah, nothing I can really complain about. It was just REALLY good. Tempest Avery even managed to surprise me. I did not see any of the twists coming (a true feat in itself) and was completely satisfied at the end of book 1.

:)

Beguiling Trickery by Tempest C. Avery is about a young woman named Kenna who has been ostracized her entire life for having sudden fits of dream states. Unknown to Kenna and her tormenters, she is a seer of future events. Kenna’s life becomes full of turmoil as she sought after by good and evil. Who is good and who is evil? Tempest C. Avery artfully keeps the reader guessing throughout the novel.
Tempest C. Avery uses first person narration to skillfully to allow the reader feel and understand Kenna’s fears, joys, and frustrations.
I thoroughly enjoyed Beguiling Trickery by Tempest C. Avery and would recommend the book to anyone who enjoys paranormal powers.

A Fantastic Ride!
I loved reading this book. It was my first com chance to read anything by this author, but after reading the synopsis I knew that I needed to read this book. I was not disappointed. I loved Kenna. She is a strong, smart, independent girl who has been dealt a pretty crappy hand in life, but instead if letting it drag her down, she took her fate into her own hands and fought to rise above it all. Her family has always been poor, from living in a car from birth to just about school age, and then having to rely on herself to do for herself what parents are usually there to do such as getting up, going to school, feeding herself, what meager food was available. Neither of her parents were really a parent or what you would call loving. After the death of her father while she was still in high school, she was forced to take a job and help to pay the bills in order to survive. Even still she worked her butt off and kept a 4.0 GPA to earn scholarships to go to college, where she could spread her wings some. Add that to her "day dreams" and then her only friends Fiske her best friend and his girlfriend whom she'd also become good friends with, and then the gorgeous mysterious Luka, well we have the makings of a great story, and that's just the tip of the iceberg! I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from Lovers of Paranormal.
