Crossbones Kim Vale

Description

Lorelei has always known you can never trust pirates. Yet, when she loses her mother and her cottage burns down, Lorelei sees hope in the black sails that reach Port Barlow. With nothing left, she accepts a handsome pirate's offer of adventure and emerges into a world of magic, mermaids, and the dangerous trials that will determine the next Pirate King.

Csilla is determined to be the first woman to wear the Bone Crown. Being betrayed by a lover and cursed half-blind isn't going to stop her. But when she visits the witch that took her sight, she learns there's someone else with a stake to the crown and it's her responsibility to protect them.

Facing sharp swords, an angry god, and dirty deals made amidst a deadly treasure hunt, they must follow the most important rule of all—never trust a pirate.

For the 3-Chapter-Prompt: Very interesting. A good set-up and I want to know more about the characters and where the story will go. So I would say this was a successful start!

I really like this, I like that the pace is smooth, but the chapters should have their names so the transition from character to character isn't so rough. I got really confused at first.

Epic, just epic! Each character has a motive, a driving force, and a complication to overcome. The story was filled with action, and had so many twists and turns it kept you on your toes. It was so imaginative and the world building was fantastic. There were maybe a few typos. That is the only thing I would suggest in revisions. But I am in love with this story! Can't wait to read a sequel.

It's like Pirates of the Caribbean meets An Ember in the Ashes.

Three chapters in and already I'm obsessed with this story! I expected nothing less of you Kim. It's so well written, intriguing, and vividly imaginative. Each of the characters are well defined, and the setting is exciting. Cannot wait to read further.

I have had a really good streak on Swoonreads lately. Keep finding books that are totally engaging, enchanting, and well-written. Honestly, what are the odds?
This is a fantastic story, and the characters are likable and understandable. The writing is solid. Aside from a few hokey friendship/love is power moment, I loved everything. But more importantly, even those moments didn't feel silly or forced--they just felt like they weren't right for me as a reader, not like they weren't right for the story. Best of luck on getting published--I'd like to see this book on shelves someday!
